Junior coaching

Red, orange and green ball groups after school and on Saturdays, from age four. £8 a session, with holiday courses each break.

Children start on small courts with slow red balls, so they can rally by the second session. They move on to orange, then green, when they are ready rather than when they reach a birthday.

Most groups run after school from Monday to Thursday, with a big Saturday morning on all six courts. Saturdays include the youngest, so parents can drop in, watch from the veranda and have a coffee. Parents must stay on site for the under-sevens.

Older juniors who want matches can play in a friendly local junior league in the summer term, with a coach on court. Nobody has to compete, and plenty of teenagers just like coming on a Thursday with their friends.

Every coach and regular junior helper is DBS-checked and first-aid trained. Our welfare officer is Carys Morgan, a committee member who is not a coach; her number is on the wall of the pavilion and in the welcome pack. Ring her about anything, however small.

Questions about junior coaching

How young can they start?

Four, in a Saturday red ball group of no more than eight, with parents on site.

What do they wear?

Whatever they can run in, plus trainers with flat soles for the clay. We sell nothing and insist on no kit.

How do you handle photographs?

We do not publish photographs of named children and only use group shots with a parent's written consent. Ask us to leave your child out and we will.

Come and hit a ball before you pay for anything.

A free guest session on any Sunday morning or Wednesday club night. Borrow a racket from the pavilion, meet whoever is on the next court, and decide over a cup of tea.
