Coaching

Coaching, from four to seventy-four.

Rhian and her team coach all sorts, most of them neither talented nor in a hurry. A trial session is free at every level.

Juniors

Four colours of ball, one at a time.

Slower balls and shorter courts mean children can rally early. They move up when they are ready, not on a birthday.

Red ball

Ages 4 to 7

Slow, soft balls on a short court with a low net. They rally by the second session.

Orange ball

Ages 7 to 9

A longer court and a bit more bounce. Serving starts to feel possible.

Green ball

Ages 9 to 11

The full court with a slightly slower ball. The first real matches.

Yellow ball

Ages 11 to 17

Normal balls. Teen groups, friendly league matches, or a Thursday with friends.

Looking after children

Plainly, how we keep juniors safe.

Every coach and regular junior helper is DBS-checked and first-aid trained, and those checks are renewed on a schedule held by the secretary. Our welfare officer is Carys Morgan, a committee member who does not coach. Her number is on the pavilion wall and in the welcome pack, and you can ring it about anything. Parents stay on site for the under-sevens, and no adult is alone with a child behind a closed door.

Names, checks and contacts here are placeholders on this demonstration site.

Questions about coaching

Do I need my own racket?

Not for the first half-term. We have a shed full of them.

Can I try a session first?

Yes, one free trial at any level, adult or junior. Just ask.

How are the coaches checked?

All coaches and regular helpers are DBS-checked and first-aid trained (placeholders on this demonstration site). Carys Morgan is our welfare officer and is not a coach.

What if a session is rained off?

We move it to the hard courts or the pavilion. If neither works, we credit it to your next half-term.

Come and hit a ball before you pay for anything.

A free guest session on any Sunday morning or Wednesday club night. Borrow a racket from the pavilion, meet whoever is on the next court, and decide over a cup of tea.
