Courts 1–3 are clay and 4–6 are hard. In November, lights are needed from about 4pm. Only courts 3 to 6 have them, on a £4 an hour token, until 10pm.

The six courts

Three clay, three hard, four with lights.

Courts 1 and 2 sit under the lime trees at the Fairwater Road end. They are clay, without floodlights, and they are what most members would choose on a June evening. Court 3 is clay with lights. Courts 4, 5 and 6 are hard courts, the all-weather ones, floodlit and open when the clay is shut.

Members book 28 days ahead; visitors a week ahead, at £14 an hour.

Questions about the courts

How do I book a court?

Members book through the members' login, up to 28 days ahead. Visitors ring or use the form, up to a week ahead. This grid shows what is free.

What do the letters mean?

L is a league match or practice, C is coaching, S is a social session, M is a member's booking. A dash means a court with no floodlights after dusk.

How does the floodlight token work?

Buy one from the box on the veranda, or the secretary, at £4 an hour. Lights take about two minutes to warm up, so do not panic.

Can I play in the rain?

Hard courts until they are unsafe. Clay closes in heavy rain and the groundsman has the last word.

Come and hit a ball before you pay for anything.

A free guest session on any Sunday morning or Wednesday club night. Borrow a racket from the pavilion, meet whoever is on the next court, and decide over a cup of tea.
