Fencing
Gates, timber and metal
Side gates made in the yard to the opening, and driveway gates in timber or galvanised steel, hung to stay level.

Side gates from £385 hung, driveway pairs from £1,450
A gate is the only part of a fence that moves, and most of the gates we are called to are dragging on the path because the hanging post has leaned. We make side gates in the yard to the opening, and we hang them on a post that does not move.
Timber side gates are ledged, braced and boarded to match the fence, with the brace running up from the hinge side so it holds the gate rather than pushing it down. They hang on heavy T-hinges or adjustable band-and-hook hinges, with a ring latch, a bolt and a padlock hasp. The hanging post is a 125 millimetre post set 750 millimetres deep, a size up from the fence.
Driveway gates come as a pair in timber or in galvanised steel, powder-coated in black or anthracite. Steel gates are made to measure by a fabricator in Ystrad Mynach and hung by us on steel posts set in concrete; they take about four weeks from survey. Automation is not something we fit, but we leave the ducting in for an electrician if you ask.
The gates page has the types side by side with their prices. If you only need an old gate rehung, that is usually a half-day and a new hanging post.

Questions about gates
Can you match my existing fence?
Usually. We bring a board offcut to the survey and match the board width and colour of the treatment; a stain evens it out after the first summer.
Will a timber gate drop?
Not if the brace runs the right way and the post is big enough. If it does in the first year, we come back and adjust it free.
Do you fit electric gates?
No. We hang the gates and lay a duct for the cables, and an electrician fits and commissions the motors.
