A solid tiled roof on the conservatory you already have
Conservatory roofs
A polycarbonate conservatory roof is too hot in July and too cold in January. We replace it with a lightweight solid tiled roof with a plastered ceiling and spotlights, or with modern solar-control glass, on the frames you already have. Two to four days.

Most conservatories built in the 1990s have a polycarbonate roof, and most of their owners use them for about four months a year. The fix is not a new conservatory, it is a new roof: a lightweight solid roof with insulation, a plastered ceiling and lights turns it into a room you use in January.
We check the frames and the base first, because a solid roof is heavier than polycarbonate; most uPVC conservatories are fine, and where the frames need strengthening we say so at the survey. The roof is a factory-made insulated system with lightweight tiles in slate grey or terracotta, a plastered ceiling inside and LED spotlights wired by our electrician. It takes three or four days, with the old roof out on the first.
If you want the light but not the heat, a glass roof with modern solar-control glass cuts the solar heat by about two-thirds and stays clean with a self-cleaning coating. Either way it may need Building Regulations approval for the solid roof, which we apply for and include in the price.

What it costs

Questions about conservatory roofs
Do I need planning permission?
Usually not for a replacement roof on an existing conservatory, but a solid roof needs Building Regulations approval, which we handle.
Will it be dark?
Less than you think: the side windows stay, and we can put two roof lights into a solid roof.
