Cleaning

Upholstery cleaning

Sofas, armchairs, dining chairs and headboards, cleaned in your house by fabric, not by guesswork.

Two-seat sofas £65, three-seat £85, corner sofas £120

Every sofa has a care label under a cushion with a letter on it, and the letter matters more than anything else. W means water is fine, S means solvent only, and X means vacuum only. We read the label before we quote.

For most modern sofas, the clean is the same idea as a carpet with a much smaller tool: a fibre-safe pre-spray, gentle brushing with a horsehair brush, and a low-moisture rinse and extraction. Cushion covers stay on; taking them off to wash is how they shrink and never fit again.

Velvet, chenille and viscose blends need more care. They can water-mark and the pile can crush, so they get a dry solvent clean and a pile brush afterwards. Leather is cleaned with a pH-neutral leather cleaner and conditioned; we do not dye or restore colour.

A sofa is usually dry in four to six hours with a window open or the heating on. Sit on a towel if you cannot wait.

Questions about upholstery

My label says X. Can you still clean it?

Only a thorough vacuum and a dry soil sponge. We will not put liquid on an X-coded fabric, and nor should anyone else.

Can you get a pen mark out?

Often, with a solvent spotter, if it has not been rubbed. Gel pen and permanent marker are the hardest; we test first and tell you honestly.

Do you do car seats or mattresses?

Mattresses yes, £45 single and £60 double, with a sanitiser. Car seats no; a valeter is better equipped.
