Rug cleaning

From £30 in the house, workshop wash from £4 a square foot

A machine-made polypropylene rug can be cleaned on the kitchen floor like a carpet. A Persian rug cannot. Its dyes may run, its foundation is cotton that shrinks, and the dirt in it goes all the way through to the floor.

Synthetic and machine-made rugs we clean in your house on a protective sheet, the same way as a carpet, and leave to dry flat. They are back on the floor the same evening.

Wool, silk and hand-knotted rugs come back to the workshop on Coity Road. We dust them first, beating the dry grit out from the back, then test every colour for bleeding, wash them flat by hand, rinse until the water runs clear and dry them hanging. Fringes are washed and combed. It takes about a week.

If a rug has moth damage, worn foundations or bleeding dyes, we say so before we start and give you the choice. Repairs we send to a specialist in Cardiff.
