Most carpets in Bridgend homes are a wool and nylon twist, and most of what makes them look tired is not dirt you can see but oily soil in the bottom third of the pile. A vacuum lifts the top of it. Hot water extraction rinses the rest.

We start by vacuuming with a proper upright, because dry soil is easier to remove dry. Then a pre-spray suited to the fibre goes on, and a rotary brush works it down into the pile. The rinse is hot water at low pressure from the machine in the van, pulled straight back out by the wand, which is where the clean stripe you see comes from.

We use less water than most people expect. With air movers running and the pile groomed upright, a typical carpet is touch-dry in two to four hours, and you can walk on it in clean socks straight away. Heavy wool and thick shagpiles take longer; we tell you before we start.

Furniture is moved where it can be: sofas and chairs, coffee tables, beds on castors. Wardrobes, pianos and anything full stay put, and we clean around them. Whatever goes back on the wet carpet goes on foil pads or blocks so the stain and rust cannot transfer.

Questions about carpets

How big is a room?

Up to about four metres by four. A through lounge or a big open-plan room counts as two; the quote form says so if you tick it.

Will it shrink?

Not with the low-moisture method we use and the pre-test. Woven wool carpets and natural fibres like sisal get a dry compound clean instead, and we say so on the survey.

Can you do it while we are out?

Yes, if someone can let us in and lock up. Plenty of customers leave a key with a neighbour.

The quote on the screen is the price on the invoice. Bethan confirms the slot the same working day, and Owain texts when he is twenty minutes away.
