The team

Dylan and Sadia.

Dylan does the screens and batteries at the front bench. Sadia does the board-level work at the microscope, and most of what other shops have given up on.

The people

Dylan Rowlands, a man of 34 in a navy overshirt in the repair shop

Dylan Rowlands

Owner, front bench

Dylan started fixing friends' phones at his mam's kitchen table in Pontypool while he worked for a mobile network's repair contractor in Newport. He opened Cracked It on Commercial Street in 2018, on a promise that he would tell people when a repair was not worth doing.

He does most of the screens and batteries, at the bench where you can watch. He will talk you out of a repair more often than you might expect.

Micro-soldering and data recovery

Sadia studied electronic engineering at the University of South Wales and spent two years at a board repair lab in Bristol. She joined in 2022 and runs the microscope at the back.

If your phone will not start at all, it goes to her. She has got photographs off phones that other shops had written off. She will also tell you straight when nobody can.

How we work

Four things we always do.

Price first

You know the figure before a screw comes out, and it does not change without a phone call.

Say so

If the repair is not worth it, we say so, even if it costs us the job.

Stand by it

Six months on the part and fitting. If it was us, it is free.

Leave your data alone

We test what we need to test, and we do not look at your photos.

Bring it in. Most phones take under an hour.

Walk in, Monday to Saturday on Commercial Street. You get the price before we start, and we will tell you if it is not worth doing.
