Often just fluff

Charging ports

Half the time it is pocket fluff and we clean it for £10. The other half is a new port, usually within the hour.

Before you buy a new phone because the charger keeps falling out, let us look in the port with a light. It may be a year of pocket fluff packed in tight, and that costs a tenner.

We check the port under the microscope, try a known good cable and read what the phone says about charging. If it is lint, we clean it there and then. If the pins are bent or corroded, we will show you and quote for a new port.

On many Samsung and some iPhone models, the port is on a small separate board, and that is a quick job. On others it is soldered to the main board, which takes Sadia at the microscope and costs a bit more. You get the price before we start either way.

Questions about charging ports

Could it be my cable?

Often. We test with our own cable first. If yours is the problem, you will walk out with a £6 cable and no repair bill.

Can you fix wireless charging as well?

Sometimes, as it depends on the phone and on what is broken. Bring it in and we will test it for free.

Bring it in. Most phones take under an hour.

Walk in, Monday to Saturday on Commercial Street. You get the price before we start, and we will tell you if it is not worth doing.
