The council's part
If the council arranges the care
Anyone can ask Monmouthshire County Council for a care and support assessment. If the person is assessed as needing care, the council can arrange it, or give direct payments so the family can choose an agency such as us. A financial assessment then decides how much the person pays towards it.
- For care at home in Wales there is a weekly maximum anyone can be charged for council-arranged care, set by the Welsh Government and reviewed each year. We will tell you the current figure when you ring rather than print one here that may be out of date.
- The value of the person's home is not counted for care at home.
- NHS Continuing Healthcare, which is free, may apply where needs are mainly health needs; ask the GP or hospital team about an assessment.
Paying us directly, at the rates on this page, is the alternative, and many families do both: council-arranged visits plus extra hours they pay for themselves.

Questions about costs
Why do you not do fifteen-minute visits?
Because nobody can help a person wash, dress and eat breakfast with dignity in fifteen minutes. Thirty minutes is our shortest visit.
Do you charge for the carer's travel?
No. Travel between visits is paid by us, not you. Villages on our set rounds have a small travel charge of £2.50 a visit, shown on the areas page.
Can we use direct payments?
Yes. If the council gives direct payments, you can use them to pay us, and top up with extra hours if you wish.
Talk to Bethan or Tomos about care.
Ring, send the enquiry form or drop into Frogmore Street. We will talk through what is needed, explain the costs and the council's part honestly, and arrange a free first visit at home, usually within a week.
