Rhian grew up in Trealaw and worked on the counter of an agricultural merchant in Tonyrefail for fourteen years before taking on the lease at Hannah Street in 2009. She trained as an SQP so that she could give proper advice on flea and worm treatments, and her register number here is a placeholder. Her collie, Moss, tests the toys and sleeps under the till.

Fish, small animals and the van

Dylan came in on a Saturday job at fifteen, for the fish, and has never really left. He looks after the twelve tanks at the back of the shop, the small animals and the Tuesday and Friday rounds. He will tell you what is wrong with your water, and he knows every set of steps between here and Tonypandy.

And Moss

The head of quality control.

Moss is a nine-year-old collie who came from a farm above Clydach Vale when she turned out not to like sheep. She spends a week with each new dog toy before it reaches the shelf. If it comes apart, it does not get stocked. She has rejected more toys than she has passed, and she has never once accepted a bribe, unless it was a pig’s ear.
