Twelve tanks and a free water test

Fish and aquatics

Twelve planted freshwater tanks, coldwater and tropical, kept by Dylan. Bring a water sample in a clean jar and he will test it for free, while you wait.

A wall of softly lit freshwater aquariums with small tropical fish and green plants, glowing blue-green in a small shop

Most dead fish die in the first fortnight, in a tank that was set up on the same day they were bought. We will not sell you fish on that day.

Dylan looks after the tanks at the back of the shop. Twelve of them, mostly small community fish and a few coldwater tanks, and every one has been in the shop at least a week before it goes on sale. If they are off colour they stay in the back.

New tank? Buy it, fill it, run it. Bring water in a clean jar after a fortnight and he will test it for nothing, tell you what the numbers mean, and tell you when it is ready for fish. Usually it takes about a month, and the fish will thank you for waiting.

He also does tank visits for the fish that cannot be brought in, at £25 within our delivery round. Ponds he leaves to someone with waders.

Questions about fish and aquatics

Can I win a goldfish at the fair and bring it to you?

Bring us the fish. We will find it a bigger home, or help you set one up. A bowl is not one.

Do you do marine?

No. It is a different trade and we would be guessing. We can point you to someone who knows it.

Bring the dog in. We will weigh it for nothing.

Or put in a weight and a food, and see which bag, how long it lasts and what it costs a week.
