Weighed, asked, and worked out
Flea and worming
Flea and worm treatments are dosed by weight, so we weigh your animal, ask a few questions and give you the right one. Rhian is the shop’s qualified adviser; your vet handles prescription-only products.

A dose for a 10 kg dog does little on a 25 kg dog, and a dog’s flea treatment can kill a cat. It is worth two minutes at the counter.
Some of these products can only be sold by a Suitably Qualified Person, known as an SQP, who has to ask about your animal first. That is Rhian, and on a demonstration site her register number is a placeholder. She will ask the weight, the age, what you used last, and whether a cat lives in the house.
Please tell us if your dog has been unwell, is pregnant, or is on medication. Prescription-only products come from your vet. So does anything for an animal that is ill: we will send you there rather than guess.
We keep a simple reminder card behind the counter if you want one, and will text you on the day it is due, if you give us the number. Nothing else ever goes to that number.

Questions about flea and worming
My cat has fleas. Is the dog stuff all right?
No. Some dog spot-ons contain permethrin, which can kill a cat. Bring the cat’s weight and we will give you the right one.
Do I have to treat all year?
It depends on where your animal goes and what it eats. Ask us or your vet. There is a good argument against treating when there is no need.
Bring the dog in. We will weigh it for nothing.
Or put in a weight and a food, and see which bag, how long it lasts and what it costs a week.
