The team

Four crews, one yard.

Craig, Lowri and eight carded scaffolders on four crews, all employed, working from the yard at Neath Abbey.

The people

Craig Thomas, a scaffolder in his forties with short dark hair and stubble, in a blue work jacket with a hard hat under his arm, in the yard

Owner and advanced scaffolder

Craig Thomas

Craig started as a labourer on the steelworks scaffolds in Port Talbot at seventeen, worked his way to an advanced scaffolding card, and set up Upright with one lorry in 2008. He prices every job himself after a visit and still spends most mornings on site. He grew up in Skewen and can see half the firm's jobs from the top of Mynydd Drumau.

Office, licences and safety records

Lowri Evans

Lowri runs the diary, the pavement licences, the inspection records and the hire dates, which is why customers get a call before the hire runs on. She joined in 2016 from the council's highways team, so she knows exactly what a licence application needs and how long it takes.

How we work

Four things that always happen.

Up on the day we say

You get a date when you accept the quote and a call the afternoon before. If the weather stops us, we ring that morning with the next date.

Built to the guidance

Every scaffold is designed to the industry guidance for its use, tied in properly and handed over with a certificate. No shortcuts on boards or guardrails.

Neighbours told first

For terraced streets we put a note through the neighbours' doors before we arrive, and keep the pavement passable.

No surprise hire bills

Hire beyond the agreed weeks is at the weekly rate on the quote. We ring before it runs on, so you are never charged without knowing.

Get a quote after a visit.

Craig looks at the house or building, talks to your builder or roofer if you like, and sends a written quote with four weeks' hire, inspections and the licence in it. Most domestic scaffolds go up within two weeks.
