Bethan and Iestyn.

Bethan buys everything in the shop. Iestyn wraps it, packs it, posts it and checks the Welsh in your card.

Bethan Pugh

Owner and buyer

Bethan ran the shop at a national museum for eleven years and left when a supplier asked her to order ten thousand plastic dragons. She opened The Paper Dragon in the Royal Arcade in 2015.

She buys everything in the shop and she knows the makers by name. She will find you a present in about ninety seconds if you tell her one true thing about the person.

Iestyn Cole

The counter, the wrapping, the Welsh

Iestyn came for a Christmas job in 2019, while finishing a degree in Welsh at Cardiff, and did not leave. He ties the bows, packs the parcels, and is the reason our post to Patagonia arrives.

If you are learning Welsh, he will talk to you in it for as long as you can stand, and check what you wrote in the card.

What we stock

Our four buying rules.

We can name the maker

If we cannot say who made it and where, it does not come in.

Somebody will use it

It has to be something a person would still want in five years.

A fair price both ways

Makers keep about 60 per cent, and we pay within fourteen days.

No plastic dragons

We have nothing against dragons. It is the plastic and the ten thousand of them.

Number 8, about halfway along the arcade.

Open every day but Sunday morning. Tell us the person and the budget and we will have you out in five minutes, wrapped.
