The makers

People we can name.

About half of the shop comes from twenty or so makers, most within an hour of Cardiff. Here are six of them.

Six of the twenty.

Eurig Rhys, potter

Llandeilo

Throws our mugs in an old creamery, from stoneware with a speckle he says is an accident.

Tegwen Morgan, printer

Penarth

Letterpress cards on an old proof press. She mixes every ink by eye, so no two runs are quite alike.

The Pontardawe Knitters

Pontardawe

Six women, one Tuesday evening a week and all of our dragons. Every dragon comes with a name.

Gwilym Davies, carver

Carmarthenshire

Lovespoons from local lime and sycamore. He will carve your initials if you give him three weeks.

Nest Lewis, candle maker

Penarth

Soy wax poured in small batches, in scents chosen by someone who does not like strong candles.

Melin Cwm, weavers

Teifi valley

A family mill weaving tapestry wool on looms older than anyone who works them.

If you make things

Selling your work with us.

Send a few photographs, your prices and a sentence or two about where you make it. We look at new work on the first Monday of the month and always reply, even if it is a no, in which case we will try to tell you who might stock it.

Makers keep about 60 per cent, and we pay within fourteen days. Anything on sale or return is agreed in writing, for up to three months.

Open every day but Sunday morning. Tell us the person and the budget and we will have you out in five minutes, wrapped.
