Twenty-odd people we know by name
Local makers
About twenty makers, most within an hour of Cardiff. We pay on time, and we put their name on the card.

About half of what we sell comes from about twenty makers, most of them within an hour of the Royal Arcade. We have been in most of their sheds.
Each piece has a card with the maker's name and where it was made. Makers keep about 60 per cent of the shop price on anything we buy from them, and we pay within fourteen days, which is rarer than it ought to be.
If you make things, write to us with some photographs and your prices. We look at new work on the first Monday of the month and we always answer. We can usually say quite quickly whether it would suit the shop, and if it would not, we will try to tell you who might stock it.
How it works here
- The maker named on every card
- Paid within fourteen days
- New work looked at on the first Monday of the month
- Every applicant gets an answer
- Meet-the-maker Saturdays through the year
What it costs
Prices are set with each maker, and they keep about 60 per cent. See who they are on the makers page. More prices are on the shop page, and the gift finder picks six by budget.
Questions about local makers
How do I get my work into the shop?
Send photographs, prices and a sentence or two to our email address, or use the visit page. We look on the first Monday of the month.
Do you take work on sale or return?
Usually we buy outright for small orders. For larger or expensive pieces we sometimes agree sale or return, in writing, for up to three months.
Number 8, about halfway along the arcade.
Open every day but Sunday morning. Tell us the person and the budget and we will have you out in five minutes, wrapped.
