Allergens

All fourteen, for every item.

Every item on the menu against the fourteen allergens in the regulations, kept to the recipe: when a recipe changes, this page changes the same day. The ingredient sheets are at the window and we will show you. Tell us about an allergy when you order and the person frying will know.

"Yes" means the allergen is an ingredient. The main range fries in beef dripping and shares oil between fish, which is why every fish item carries fish; the separate fryer does the vegetarian items and the gluten-free batter in vegetable oil. The kitchen handles wheat flour, eggs and mustard every day; airborne flour is a risk at the main range.

Gluten-free

The separate fryer, every Tuesday and on request.

Every fish on the menu can be done in our gluten-free batter of rice flour and cornflour from the separate fryer, with its own oil, baskets, scoops and blue-handled tools; the chips go through it too. On Tuesdays it runs all day with its own cook; any other day it takes ten minutes to come up to temperature. The peas, curry sauce and gravy are gluten-free every day; the pies and the scampi are not.

Questions about allergens

Is the batter the same every day?

The wheat batter is: flour, cornflour, raising agent and sparkling water, so it contains gluten and nothing else on the list. The gluten-free batter is rice flour, cornflour, gluten-free baking powder and sparkling water.

Can you avoid mustard and egg?

Fish and chips, peas and gravy contain neither. The tartare (egg, mustard), the curry sauce (mustard, celery) and the pies (egg) do. Tell us at the window and we will keep the sauces off.

What about nuts and sesame?

Nothing on the menu contains nuts, peanuts or sesame, and none come into the kitchen. The ice cream in the café comes from a dairy that handles nuts; the tubs are labelled.

Is the beef dripping a problem for anyone?

It is not one of the fourteen, but it means nothing from the main range is vegetarian, vegan, halal or kosher. The separate fryer uses vegetable oil.

Book a slot, skip the queue.

Pick a collection time from the slots still open, every fifteen minutes through each shift, say what you would like, and it is fried to the slot and waiting in a bag with your name on it at the end of the counter.
