Kept by Rhys in the cellar
Real ale
Four hand pumps: our house bitter, a dark mild and two guest ales from Welsh breweries that change every few days, from £4.20 a pint.

Real ale is the reason the Colliers still opens at noon. Two pumps never change and two rotate through guest ales from small Welsh breweries.
Colliers Bitter, an easy 3.8 per cent amber, and Navigation Dark, a mild named after the pit that closed in 1991, are always on. The two guest pumps change every few days; the home page shows what is on today and what goes on next.
Every cask rests in the cellar for at least a day before it is tapped, and the lines are cleaned every Monday morning. If you are not sure, ask for a taster: Rhys would rather pour three tasters than one pint you do not like.
Thirds are £1.50, so you can try all four for six pounds. We also keep a cider on a hand pump in summer and a proper lager for the people who insist.
What you get
- Two permanent ales and two guests
- Thirds at £1.50 to try them all
- Casks rested a day before tapping
- Lines cleaned every Monday
- Tasters for anyone who asks
What it costs
A pint of real ale from £4.20, a third for £1.50. Every price is on the pub page; tonight’s event is on what’s on.
Allergies: please tell us about any allergy or intolerance before you order. Our kitchen handles all 14 major allergens, so we cannot promise any dish is free of traces. Ask for the allergen sheet; it lists every dish.
Questions about real ale
How do I know what is on?
The home page and the what’s-on page list today’s four ales, worked out from the cellar rota, and what goes on next.
Do you do takeaway?
Yes, in four-pint containers for £16, from any of the pumps. Ring ahead on a Saturday.
Can I suggest a brewery?
Please. Most of the guests on the rota came from a regular saying "you should try…".
The fire is lit, the kettle’s on behind the bar, and there is a seat at the end.
Real ale from £4.20, a Sunday carvery at £13.95, the quiz on Tuesdays and a band on Saturdays, at the bottom of the High Street in Treharris since 1893.
