The team

A nurse, and a man who sits on the floor.

The two of them do every round and every collection. No Saturday staff, and nobody you will not meet.

The people

Menna Rees, a woman of about sixty with a silver bob and a blue fleece, cradling a calm ginger cat in a timber building

Menna Rees

Owner and former veterinary nurse

Menna worked as a veterinary nurse for nineteen years at a practice in Cowbridge, where people kept asking her where they could board a diabetic cat. In 2011 she and her husband built four chalets behind the farmhouse at Pen-y-Bryn. There are twelve now. She gives most of the medication, writes up the book, and does the last look at ten o’clock.

Chalets, collections and the van

Gethin grew up on the next farm and came to fix a roof in 2016. He stayed. He drives the van and looks after the chalets, the heating and the mid-morning round. Nervous cats tend to like him, because he sits on the floor and ignores them, and he has been known to do it for an hour.

  • 2011the year Menna built the first four, behind the farmhouse

Licensed

What the council checks.

Catteries in Wales need a boarding licence from the local council. Ours comes from the Vale of Glamorgan, and an inspector checks the chalet sizes, the sneeze barriers between runs, the fire plan, and the records. On this demonstration site the licence number is a placeholder and we claim no rating. A real one would be printed here, and you would be welcome to ask to see the certificate on the wall of the reception hut.

Come and see where your cat would sleep.

Any day from 2pm to 4pm, by arrangement. Or put in your dates and see which chalets are free.
