What we do

Six things, and only cats.

All six

01

Heated chalets

A timber chalet with a heated bed, a thermostat, a shelf at the window and a covered outdoor run. Eight of them, £15 a night, with food, litter and fuss all included.

£15 a night for one cat.

02

Sharing chalets

Four bigger chalets for cats who live together: two shelves, two beds, and a longer run. Only cats from one household share here. £24 a night for two, and £30 for three.

£24 a night for two cats.

03

Medication

Menna was a veterinary nurse for nineteen years. She gives tablets, ear drops, eye drops and insulin, exactly as your vet wrote them, and keeps a written record you can take home.

Tablets and drops are £2 a day.

04

Senior cats

Old cats have the end chalets, away from the door. Low-sided litter trays, a low shelf, a ramp if needed, a thicker bed and somebody who notices if anything changes.

The same as a single chalet, at £15 a night.

05

Collection and return

If you are leaving early, have no car, or the cat hates your car, Gethin comes to your door with a carrier and a heated van. £12 each way within ten miles of the farm.

£12 each way within ten miles.

06

Webcam and updates

A photograph every day by text or email with a line on how your cat is doing. If you would like more, there is a private webcam in every chalet, with a link just for you.

The daily photograph and the webcam are both free.

The run

A shelf, a view, and the top field.

Every chalet opens on to a private covered run, two metres long, with a sneeze barrier on each side, so cats can see the sheep but not each other. Most cats spend the first day hiding, and the rest of the week here.

There is a heated bed for the winter, a blind for August, and a hiding box for the first night. You can bring a jumper that smells of you. It helps more than anything else.

How we run it

The reasons cats settle here.

Vaccinated, every one

Every cat here has a current vaccination card, and we check the date before you book. That is how you keep a cat flu out of a building full of cats. We will not bend this, even for a very nice cat.

No shared air

A gap of 60 cm or a solid wall between every chalet and run, as the licence asks. Cats can see the fields but not each other, and most of them prefer it.

A nurse does the medication

Menna was a veterinary nurse for nineteen years. She gives tablets, drops and insulin injections as your vet has written them, and writes it all down. Your vet’s name goes on the form before you leave.

We keep your cat’s hours

Tell us when your cat eats, what it eats and where it likes to hide. We will keep to that. A cat that goes off its food for more than a day gets a call to you, and then to your vet.

  • 2011the year Menna built the first four, behind the farmhouse
  • 21°Cwhere the heated beds and the chalet thermostat hold it in winter

Medication

A nurse for the insulin.

Menna gave injections for nineteen years in a practice in Cowbridge. Tablets, drops and insulin go in as your vet wrote them, at the times they go in at home, and she writes down each one.

If you have stopped going away because of a diabetic cat, ring her. A short stay first, and then you can see how it goes.

Reviews

Some very particular cats.

All six, including the four-star one
Medication

Bert is diabetic, and for three years we did not go anywhere. Menna gave him his insulin for a fortnight while we went to see our daughter in Canada. He came home a better weight than he went in, with a written book of every dose.

Senior

Mabel was nineteen and I was sure it was too much for her. They took out the high shelf, put a low tray in and rang me on the second day to say she was eating. It was the first holiday we had taken without worrying.

Sharing

Ours are brothers and they fight all day and then sleep on top of each other. They told us the truth about which one had been eating the other’s dinner. Separate bowls ever since.

Questions people ask

How much does it cost?

A single chalet is £15 a night, including food, litter and a daily photograph. Sharing chalets are £24 for two cats and £30 for three. Check your dates to see the price and which chalets are free.

What vaccinations does my cat need?

A current course against cat flu and enteritis, with the last injection at least seven days before arrival (fourteen for a first course). Bring the card. We are also happy with an extra vaccination against feline leukaemia, but we do not insist on it.

How early should I book for Christmas?

Now, usually. Christmas chalets go by the end of October in most years, with a five-night minimum and a deposit of half the stay. Our tool warns you if your dates cross Christmas.

Can my cats share a chalet?

Yes, if they live together. We never mix cats from different homes.

Do you board dogs?

No, nor do we have a dog on the farm. It is the reason that many of our cats settle.

My cat needs medicine. Can you give it?

Yes. Menna was a veterinary nurse for nineteen years. Tablets and drops are £2 a day, and insulin or other injections £4 a day.

Come and see where your cat would sleep.
