Lower shelves, quieter chalets

Senior cats

Old cats have the end chalets, away from the door. Low-sided litter trays, a low shelf, a ramp if needed, a thicker bed and somebody who notices if anything changes.

A sixteen-year-old cat may not hear you coming, or may not jump as far as it thinks. So we change the room around it.

Chalets 7 and 8 are at the quiet end, away from the door and the morning traffic. We take the high shelf out and put a low one in, add a ramp if it helps, use a low-sided litter tray, and raise the water bowl slightly for a stiff neck. Then we leave well alone, because a calm cat is doing well.

Older cats change quickly. We weigh them on arrival and at the end of a long stay, and note how much they drink, because drinking more is often the first sign that something has changed. If we see something, we will tell you, even if it is not urgent, so you can mention it to your vet when you get home.

An old cat who has never boarded might do better at home with a sitter. Menna will say so if she thinks so, even if it costs us the booking. Visit first, bring the cat for a night if you like, and see.

Questions about senior cats

Is my cat too old to board?

Not usually, but it depends on the cat. Ring Menna. Our oldest so far was twenty-two, who stayed four times and ate better here than at home, according to the owner.

My cat is going deaf and blind. Is that all right?

Yes, and we will keep everything in the same place. Tell us, and we will come in slowly and with a bit of noise on the floor.

Come and see where your cat would sleep.

Any day from 2pm to 4pm, by arrangement. Or put in your dates and see which chalets are free.
