The chalets

Inside the chalets.

Timber, insulated and heated, with a shelf at the window and a covered run behind. We built them ourselves, a few at a time, from what cats actually did in the first four.

How the day runs

Three rounds, and one last look.

  1. 7:30amFirst round. Beds and water, breakfast at the time you asked for, and a look at everybody.
  2. 9:30amLitter and a clean, one chalet at a time. Photographs go off to everybody who wants one.
  3. 1:00pmSecond round, tablets and insulin if due, and a fuss for anyone who wants it. Brushes for the long-haired ones.
  4. 5:00pmThird round and supper. Runs are shut against the foxes as the light goes.
  5. 7:00pmSecond insulin, and anything else that is due. The book gets written up.
  6. 10:00pmMenna’s last look, with a torch, because she cannot sleep otherwise.

The rules

Why you cannot bring a dog.

A cat in a strange place needs to smell nothing frightening. So there are no dogs in the chalets, no dogs in the yard and no dogs in the house. Gethin’s collie retired to his mother’s farm when the sixth chalet went up.

The same goes for sneezes. There is a solid barrier or a 60 cm gap between every run, as the licence asks, and we wash hands and change the scoop between chalets. Nobody shares anything except by arrangement, and then only with cats from their own home.

Come and see where your cat would sleep.

Any day from 2pm to 4pm, by arrangement. Or put in your dates and see which chalets are free.
