Airports

Booked the night before for 3:45, car outside at 3:40 with the engine off so as not to wake the street. £46 as it said on the website, the driver took the cases, and on the way back a week later the flight was ninety minutes late and he was there anyway with no charge for it. That is the whole job done properly.

Local fares

Six quid home from town on a Thursday, same as it says, same as it was last year. The dispatcher tells you the colour of the car and the driver's name and the app shows it coming up Taff Street. Twenty minutes on a Saturday at midnight, which they tell you honestly rather than saying five.

School runs

My son has been taken to his school in Tonteg every morning for three years by the same driver, Emyr, who knows which days are hard and which song helps. When Emyr was off, the office texted me the name of the substitute, who my son had already met at the school. I did not know a taxi firm could do that.

Accessible cars

I use a powered chair. The ramp car comes at 6:50 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, the same driver straps the chair down properly every time without being asked, and I pay the same as my neighbour pays for a saloon. The office rings on the last Friday of the month to check next month's list.

Eight-seaters

Seven of us with cases to Bristol Airport in one minibus for £146, which beat two saloons by a mile, and the driver knew exactly where the drop-off zone was. Four stars because the return pick-up took a few minutes to find in the short-stay in the dark; a name board next time, which they do offer. The fare was the fare.

Accounts

Our surgery sends patients to the Royal Glamorgan and to Cardiff most days. One invoice a month with a reference for every patient journey, laid out the way our bookkeeper asked, 5% off, and a person at the office who answers the same day when a driver has waited and we need to know why. Fourteen years and we have never looked elsewhere.

About the four stars

Bristol collections now get the bay number by text before you land.

Catrin was right that the short-stay at Bristol is dark and badly signed at eleven at night. The driver now texts the bay number and the car's colour as the flight lands rather than once you have found the car park, and a name board at arrivals is offered on every Bristol and Heathrow booking rather than only on request. The fare was the fare, which she said, and which we would rather hear than anything about the car park.
