Curtains shortened, relined or made, blinds and cushions, a free measuring visit in Penarth, from £30
Curtains and soft furnishings
Curtains taken up, let down, relined or made to measure, Roman blinds, cushion covers and seat pads. A free measuring visit within three miles of the shop, so the drop is right at your window. Shortening a pair from £30; made-to-measure from £180 a pair.

Curtains are the biggest garments most people own, and the ones most often bought in the wrong length. Penarth's tall Victorian windows make it worse: nothing off the shelf is long enough.
For any curtain work we would rather measure at your window. Huw comes out within three miles of the shop for free, usually on a Tuesday or Thursday afternoon, measures the drop from the track or pole to the floor in three places (floors and ceilings in old houses are rarely level), and talks through whether you want them to kiss the floor, break on it, or stop a centimetre above.
Shortening is done from the bottom hem with the original weights put back, so the curtains hang as they did. Relining replaces a worn or sun-rotted lining, and is often the way to give good old curtains another twenty years. Made-to-measure curtains are made in the workroom with interlining for warmth, hand-sewn hems and pencil, pinch or goblet pleats, in your fabric or one from our books.
Roman blinds, cushion covers, seat pads for window seats and kitchen chairs, and bench cushions for boats in the marina are all made here too. Bring the old one and we copy it.

Questions about curtains
Do you hang the curtains?
Huw hangs them free within three miles when we have made them, and for £20 when we have altered them.
How long does made-to-measure take?
About three weeks from the measuring visit, or four if the fabric has to be ordered.
Can you shorten curtains with a pattern?
Yes. Where the pattern has to line up across a pair, we take the length from the top instead of the bottom, which costs a little more and looks right.
Bring it in, or book a fitting.
Most alterations and all dry cleaning need no appointment: come to the counter on Glebe Street and we pin it there and then, with the price and the ready-by date on your ticket. Bridal, made-to-measure and evening fittings are booked.
