Which treatment

Tell it what hurts, it tells you what to book.

Nine things people walk in with. Pick the closest and the page gives the treatment, how long, what it costs, the likely cause and what we would do in the room. It is a starting point, not a diagnosis: the first ten minutes of every slot are for checking it.

The picker

An Achilles that grumbles

Injury rehab block with loading

£50 45 minutes

The likely cause
An irritated tendon from a jump in mileage or hills, nearly always with tight calves above it. Tendons respond to loading, not rest.
What we would do
Soft-tissue work on the calves and the tendon, then the heel-drop loading programme taught and checked over four sessions, £180. A stress reaction looks different and goes to a physio.

When it is not ours

One in six injury clients goes to a physio first, with a letter.

Pain that does not behave like a muscle, a joint that gives way, swelling, numbness or pins and needles, pain at night, anything after a fall or an impact: these need someone who can diagnose, and we are not that. We write what we found, send you to one of three physios in Roath and Cathays whose work we know, and do not charge for the ten minutes. When they say the loading can start, we pick it up.

Questions about the picker

Is the picker a diagnosis?

No. It is the treatment that usually fits what people describe, so you know what to book and what it costs. The first ten minutes of the slot check it, and if it is something else we change the plan or send you to a physio.

What if two things hurt?

Book an hour rather than forty-five minutes and tell us both at the start. Two areas done properly in an hour beats four done lightly.

Can I book a different length from the one it suggests?

Yes; it is a suggestion. The one exception is deep tissue, which we do not do in thirty minutes because the tissue takes ten to accept the depth.

The next free slot is on this website. Take it.

Forty-five minutes is £50 and the usual first booking: ten minutes of talking, thirty-five hands on, a stretch and a drill written down. Pick an hour on the book page up to two hours ahead, or ring the clinic and we find you one.
