Projects

Eight bathrooms, before and after.

Every one fitted by our own team, photographed on the morning we started and the afternoon we finished, with what it cost and how many working days it took. Published with the owners' permission and without their house numbers.

A Victorian bathroom with a freestanding roll-top bath, black and white floor tiles and a brass towel rail

The eight projects

The finished family bathroom with a white bath, a walk-in shower, eucalyptus tiles to half height and a brass rail
After
The same bathroom before: an avocado green suite with brown border tiles
Before

Family bathroom · half tiled

A family bathroom in eucalyptus

Plymouth Road, Penarth

A 1930s semi with an avocado suite nobody had dared to remove. Bath kept under the window, a walk-in shower where the airing cupboard was, the boiler moved to the loft by our plumber.

£11,20012 working days

The finished en-suite with a walk-in shower behind clear glass and a wall-hung basin
After
The same space before: a cramped shower cubicle with a cracked tray and a folding door
Before

En-suite · full tiled

An en-suite from a box room

Victoria Road, Penarth

The old cubicle had leaked into the kitchen ceiling twice. New stud wall, a low tray twice the size, a fixed panel instead of the folding door, fully tanked.

£7,6009 working days

The finished accessible wet room with a level floor, a fold-down seat and grab rails
After
The same bathroom before: a 1990s suite with a high-sided bath, a bath board and mouldy sealant
Before

Wet room · grant-funded

A wet room for Mrs Rees

Sully

Specified by the council's occupational therapist and funded by a Disabled Facilities Grant: level floor, seat, rails into pattress boards, a door rehung to open outward.

Grant-funded11 working days

The finished cloakroom with a compact wall-hung basin, a concealed cistern toilet and dark green wall tiles
After
The same cloakroom before: pine tongue-and-groove panelling and a pedestal basin
Before

Cloakroom · half tiled

A cloakroom under the stairs

Westbourne Road, Penarth

A cloakroom with pine on every surface. Concealed cistern, a basin 25 cm deep, deep green tiles to the dado rail and a mirror the width of the wall.

£4,4005 working days

The finished loft en-suite under a sloping ceiling with a skylight, a walk-in shower and white tiles
After
The same loft space before: bare boards, a skylight and exposed timber
Before

En-suite · loft conversion

An en-suite in the loft

Lower Penarth

Fitted into a new loft conversion under the builder's programme: waste by gravity to the stack, a fan ducted through the roof, a shower placed where the ceiling is highest.

£8,9009 working days

The finished walk-in shower where the bath used to be, with a rainfall head and green vertical tiles
After
The same bathroom before: a white bath with an electric shower over it and a curtain
Before

Shower upgrade

Bath out, shower in

Dinas Powys

For a customer who could no longer step into the bath. Bath out, low tray in the same space, concealed thermostatic valve, the rest of the room untouched.

£4,3004 working days

The finished Victorian bathroom with a freestanding roll-top bath, black and white floor tiles and a brass towel rail
After
The same bathroom before: a dated beige suite and lino in a high-ceilinged room
Before

Family bathroom · full tiled

A Victorian bathroom, freestanding

Marine Parade, Penarth

A tall Victorian room that deserved better. Freestanding bath in the middle, underfloor heating under encaustic-pattern tiles, and the original window shutters restored.

£14,60013 working days

The finished bathroom with a thermostatic shower over the bath, a hinged glass screen and pale tiles
After
The same bathroom before: an electric shower over the bath with a shower curtain and cracked tiles
Before

Shower over bath

A bathroom kept, a shower added

Cogan

The suite was fine. A thermostatic shower off the combination boiler instead of the electric one, a hinged screen, and the shower end tanked and retiled.

Questions about the projects

Can I speak to one of these customers?

Several have said yes. Ask Siân, and she will put you in touch with the one whose bathroom is closest to yours.

Why does the Sully wet room not show a price?

It was funded by a Disabled Facilities Grant, and the customer asked us not to publish the figure. The grant in Wales can be up to £36,000; most wet rooms cost far less.

Are the photographs retouched?

Straightened and colour-corrected, nothing more. The before photographs are taken on the morning we start, with the owner's things moved out of the way.

Start with an hour in the room. Then the showroom.

The design visit is £95 and comes off the bathroom when you order: Siân measures the room, finds the pipes and the soil stack, and sends a drawn layout with three priced options within a week. Or price a package on the estimator first.
