Oak frames, Welsh wool or linen

Sofas

Deep sofas on a visible oak frame, upholstered in Wales in linen or Welsh wool, with cushion covers that come off for washing.

We do not make the upholstery ourselves. We make the frames, and a family firm in Lampeter stuffs and covers them.

The frame is oak, with mortice and tenon corners rather than staples. You can see it around the arms and the feet, and it will outlast several sets of covers. Inside, there are sprung webbing and feather-wrapped foam seat cushions which you will need to plump, as you would with anything comfortable.

Covers come in six linens and four Welsh wools from a mill in Ceredigion. Every cover unzips and can be dry-cleaned, and a new set costs about a third of the sofa. Ask for swatches and we will post three for free.

Before you order, measure the door, the turn in the hall and the stairs. A three-seater is 210 centimetres long and 92 deep, but the seat frame comes apart if we need it to.

Questions about sofas

How long does a sofa take?

About ten weeks, because it is covered to order.

Will it fit up my stairs?

Send us the width of the door and the turn at the landing. If it is tight, the back and arms unbolt, and we rebuild it upstairs at no charge.

Measure the room. We will tell you the truth about the table.

The room planner draws it to scale in a few seconds, or Mari will come out with a tape for £45, taken off the price of the piece.
