Room planner

Will it fit?

Your room size and a table. We draw it to scale and tell you how much is left to walk behind the chairs. The rule: 45 centimetres to sit, 45 more to walk.

About the rules

Why 90 centimetres?

A person on a chair takes up about 45 centimetres from the table edge. A person walking behind them needs about another 45. So 90 centimetres from table to wall is comfortable, 75 is a squeeze, and below 60 you cannot pull a chair out properly.

What about furniture along the wall?

Take its depth off the room. If you have a 45cm sideboard along one wall, give the planner a room 45 centimetres narrower. A radiator takes about 10.

Does the table have to go in the middle?

Not at all. Push one end or side against a wall and you get that room back on the other side, and lose the seats on that side. The drawing shows it centred.

Still not sure? Mask it out on the floor.

Masking tape at the size of the table, chairs and all, and live with it for a day. Or Mari will come out with a tape for £45, taken off the price.
