Five minutes, most of them

Keys cut

House, shed, padlock and old mortice keys cut while you wait. If it does not work, bring it back and we will recut it free.

Hands holding a brass door key against a key-cutting machine, with blank keys on hooks behind

Hand it over, have a look at the hooks and it is done in five minutes. If the new key sticks in the door, bring it back and we will recut it for nothing.

We cut most house, shed, garage and padlock keys from the wall of blanks behind the counter, plus the long old mortice keys that the kiosks in town will not touch. We keep blanks for a good many doors in Tredegar that have not been changed since the coal board.

For security keys with a restricted pattern we need the owner's card, and we will ask for it every time. We do not cut car keys with a chip, and we will send you to someone who does.

How it works here

  • Cylinder, mortice, padlock, shed and garage keys
  • Done while you wait, usually in five minutes
  • Free recut if a new key does not turn
  • Restricted keys only with the owner's card
  • Old locks identified, and new ones fitted by a local locksmith we can recommend

What it costs

Cylinder keys £5, mortice keys from £8, padlock keys from £4. Security keys from £14, with the owner's card. Recuts are free. More prices are on the prices page, and the departments page lists what is where.

Questions about keys cut

Is the key machine always running?

Monday to Saturday when we are open, except from 1pm on a Wednesday, when we close early. The home page shows what is on today.

Can you copy a copy?

Usually, but each copy loses a little. Bring the original key if you can find it.

Can you cut a car key?

An old key with no chip, sometimes. Anything with a chip needs an auto locksmith.

Bring the broken bit in.

Hand it over the counter and we will find you the part, or tell you what you actually need. Monday to Saturday, and until 1pm on a Wednesday.
