Out on the pavement

Garden and logs

Net bags of seasoned logs, kindling, compost, spades and barrows. Logs come in on Thursdays, and we will carry them to your car.

Stacked net bags of split logs, sacks of compost, a wheelbarrow and spades against a green wall

Logs arrive on Thursday morning off a farm near Crickhowell and sit on the pavement outside until they run out, which in January is about Saturday lunchtime.

The logs are seasoned hardwood, under 20 per cent moisture, so they meet the Ready to Burn standard on what we are told and on our own meter, which you are welcome to see. Wet logs tar your chimney and waste your money, so we would rather sell you dry ones or none. We sell kindling and firelighters, and we will carry a net out to your car.

For the garden, there is compost, grit and sand in small bags, proper spades and forks with ash handles, and a few barrows. Delivery to Tredegar, Georgetown, Sirhowy and Ashvale is £5 on Fridays, up to five nets.

How it works here

  • Seasoned hardwood, tested with our moisture meter
  • In on Thursdays, while they last
  • Carried to your car, free
  • Local delivery on Fridays for £5
  • Spades, forks, barrows, compost and grit

What it costs

Seasoned hardwood logs £8 a net, three for £21. Kindling £4, coal-free firelighters £3, compost £7 a bag, barrows from £59. More prices are on the prices page, and the departments page lists what is where.

Questions about garden and logs

Are the logs dry?

Under 20 per cent moisture on our meter. Ask to see it, and split one if you like. If you get a wet net, bring it back.

Can I burn them in a smoke control area?

Dry wood in an approved appliance is fine in most cases, but the rules differ from place to place. Check with the council if you are unsure.

Bring the broken bit in.

Hand it over the counter and we will find you the part, or tell you what you actually need. Monday to Saturday, and until 1pm on a Wednesday.
