Two hours £76: confidence after a break, motorways after passing, a new car or a new city

Refresher and motorway lessons

For licence holders: a two-hour refresher after years away from driving, a motorway lesson after passing (the M4 at Cardiff is not where you want to learn alone), parking and manoeuvres, driving in the city after moving here, or confidence after a bump. No syllabus, just the thing you asked for.

A small white hatchback reversing into a parking bay on a quiet residential cul-de-sac with a learner at the wheel

About a fifth of our lessons are for people who already have a licence: a parent who has not driven since the children were small, a new graduate who passed at seventeen and moved to Cardiff at twenty-five, someone who had a crash and lost their nerve. There is no plan and no test at the end, just an instructor, dual controls and the thing you want to be able to do.

A refresher starts with a conversation about what you want: parallel parking, the Gabalfa interchange, driving at night, the car you have just bought. Then two hours of exactly that, with an instructor who will not tut. Most people need one session, some two or three, and the rate is the same as a learner's. If you have moved here from abroad and need to pass a UK test, that is a different conversation and we do that too.

The motorway lesson is for new passers: the M4 from Cardiff West to Newport and back, joining and leaving, lane discipline, the smart motorway signs, what to do if the car stops. Learners can go on the motorway with an instructor now, so we offer it before the test as well, but most people do it the week after passing. Pass Plus, a six-hour course covering motorways, night, rural and town driving, is £220 and some insurers still discount for it; we will tell you whether yours does.

Questions about refreshers

Can we use my car?

Yes, if it is insured for the instructor to supervise (most policies cover it; we will check) and roadworthy. For a motorway lesson we recommend our car with dual controls the first time.

I have a foreign licence. Can I just swap it?

Depends on the country. Licences from the EU, Australia, Canada and a list of others swap without a test; most others need a UK theory and practical within twelve months of becoming resident. We will tell you which on the phone and plan the lessons for a test if you need one.

Book the introductory two hours. £60, from your door.

The controls on a quiet road, moving off and stopping, and enough driving to see how you take to it, with the instructor who covers your area. At the end you get a written plan and an honest estimate of the hours. Book with the form or ring the office, Monday to Saturday 8 to 7.
