One or two weeks, 20 to 40 hours, the test booked before you start

Intensive courses

Four hours a day with one instructor, Monday to Friday, for one or two weeks, with the practical test booked at the end before the course begins. For people with a deadline, people who have driven before, or people who learn best by immersion. Dates and spaces on the intensive page.

An intensive course works for some people and not for others, and we will tell you which you are on the phone before taking a deposit. It works when you have passed the theory, have a job or a move with a date on it, and can give the fortnight your full attention. It does not work as a shortcut for someone who has never driven, and we say so.

Courses run Monday to Friday, four hours a day in two sessions, with one instructor and one car. The practical test is booked for the last day or the day after before the course starts, which is why the dates on the intensive page are set a month ahead and why you need your theory certificate to book. The first morning is an assessment; if the instructor thinks the hours booked are not enough, you are told that morning and can add hours or move to a longer course without losing anything.

The 20-hour course suits someone who has had lessons before or has driven abroad and needs to get to test standard quickly. The 30- and 40-hour courses suit a near-beginner with a deadline. Every course includes the mock test, the test-day car and the hour before the test. Courses are limited to one per instructor per fortnight, so there are four spaces a fortnight across the school, and the calendar shows what is left.

Questions about intensive

What if I fail the test at the end?

You get a short debrief against the examiner's sheet, a retest booked as early as the DVSA allows (ten working days), and two hours before it at the block rate. About a quarter of intensive students need a second test; most pass it.

Can I do an intensive course without the theory?

You can start one, but the practical test cannot be booked until you have passed the theory, which defeats the purpose. Pass the theory first; the guide on this website is how most of our students do it in three weeks.

Book the introductory two hours. £60, from your door.
