About us

Two engineers, one diary.

Cwm Heating is Rhodri and Cerys on the tools and Mandy on the phone. Small enough that you get the same engineer back, big enough that the emergency line is always answered.

How it started

Rhodri spent six years on a boiler manufacturer's service team, which means six years of seeing what other installers had done wrong. In 2011 he bought a van, rented a unit on Penallta and started doing it right: the survey before the quote, the quote before the work, and the phone answered at three in the morning by someone who could actually help.

Cerys joined from her apprenticeship in 2016 and Mandy took over the diary in 2018. Fourteen years and nineteen hundred boilers later it is still three of us, on purpose. We turn down work rather than send a stranger.

What we will not do

  • Fit a part without telling you the price first.
  • Condemn a boiler that can be fixed, or fix one that should be condemned. We tell you which, with reasons.
  • Send an engineer without a Gas Safe card. Ask to see it; we are pleased when people do.
  • Charge the out-of-hours price for a job that could have waited, without saying so on the phone first.

Rhodri Evans

Owner and heating engineer

Rhodri served his time with a Caerphilly heating firm, spent six years with a national boiler manufacturer's service team, and started Cwm Heating in 2011 with one van. He still takes the emergency phone two nights a week and does most of the new boiler surveys.

Cerys Howells

Heating engineer

Cerys joined in 2016 from an apprenticeship at a Cardiff college and is the engineer customers ask for by name. Gas, unvented and oil qualified, and the one who finds the fault the last two engineers missed.

Office and bookings

Mandy runs the diary, the reminders, the landlord certificates and the emergency line in office hours. If you have been rung the day before a service to confirm the time, that was Mandy, and she will have told the engineer where to park.
