Twelve weeks to a charity bout, £420, with no sparring on site

White-collar fight prep

You have signed up for a charity white-collar bout and have twelve weeks. We get you fit enough to box three rounds, sharp enough on the pads to look like you belong there, and ready for fight night. Sparring happens at the licensed club running your event, never here.

White-collar boxing is a lot of fun and a real fight, and twelve weeks is not long. What we can do in that time is the part that wins most bouts at that level: fitness that lasts three two-minute rounds, a solid guard, a jab you can rely on and the habit of breathing under pressure. What we do not do is spar. Contact belongs at the licensed amateur club or promoter running your event, with their medicals, gloves and supervision.

Each week is two forty-five-minute pad sessions with Dai, built round the rounds you will box, plus a written plan for three short conditioning sessions on your own: runs, skipping, the bag and the floor. The pad work moves from basics to the combinations and defence that suit you, and from week six it is done in fight-length rounds at fight pace. We talk to your event's coaches about how your sparring is going so the pad rounds fix what they see.

Fight week is planned on paper: lighter sessions, sleep, food and getting to the venue. We do not do weight cutting and will not help anyone dehydrate to make a weight; if your event has weight limits, the plan gets you there sensibly over the twelve weeks or not at all. Every event needs its own medical; book it early. Dai will be in your corner on the night if the event allows it and the date is free.

Questions about fight prep

Why will you not spar with me?

Because contact needs a licensed club, medicals, the right gloves and headguards and a supervisor whose whole job is safety. Your event provides that. We provide the fitness and the skill that make the sparring go better.

Can you help me lose weight for the bout?

We can help you eat and train sensibly so your weight settles where it should. We do not do cuts, sweat suits or dehydration, and we will tell your event if we think a weight is unsafe for you.

The first round is free. Twenty minutes on the pads.

Tell us what you are after and roughly when you can train, and we reply within the hour between rounds with a time: how to stand, a wrapped hand, the jab and cross, and an honest answer about where to start. No card details, and nobody hits you.
