Fitted, then looked after

Hearing aids

Aids from several makers, fitted to your own test results and checked in your own ear, with four years of aftercare in the price.

We are independent, so we fit what suits your ears and your hands rather than one maker's range. NHS aids are good, free and not always the right fit for everyone, and we will say so either way.

If your test says aids would help, we go through the styles with you on the table, including how fiddly each one is. If you have arthritis in your hands, or you garden, or you wear glasses and a mask, that matters more than the number of channels on a brochure.

Fitting takes about an hour. We set the aids to your test using a small tube in your ear that measures what actually reaches your eardrum, which is called real-ear measurement. We then see you at two weeks, six weeks and three months, because your brain takes a while to get used to hearing the fridge again.

There is a sixty-day trial. If they are not for you, you bring them back and pay for nothing but the ear moulds, if you had any made. The price is on a sheet before you say yes.

What is included

  • Choice of makers, no commission on any of them
  • Real-ear measurement at fitting
  • Sixty-day trial
  • Four years of adjustments, cleans and domes
  • Free tube and dome changes while you are passing

What it costs

Private aids start at £1,190 a pair, with four years of aftercare included. NHS aids are free through your GP, and we explain that route too. The prices page has everything on one sheet.

Questions about hearing aids

Should I go NHS instead?

If your budget is tight and your loss is straightforward, quite possibly. Your GP refers you to the audiology service at the local hospital, there may be a wait, and the aids are free. We will print your results to speed that up.

How long do they last?

Usually five to seven years. The cost is roughly the same whether you buy the plain or the clever one if you count it per year, so buy what you will actually wear.

Will people see them?

Probably not unless you point them out. Most people notice far less than you fear, and notice you asking them to repeat themselves far more.
