Interior painting

Walls, ceilings and woodwork painted properly: filled, sanded, sealed, cut in by hand and finished in two full coats of trade paint, one room at a time with the house still liveable.

A freshly decorated living room with soft pink walls, navy painted alcove and woodwork and a white ceiling

Anyone can put paint on a wall. The job is what happens before: the filling, the sanding, the sealing, the caulking, and then two coats that go on the day they should.

Every room starts with the furniture moved to the middle and covered, the floor sheeted, and a walk round with you to agree what is being painted and in what. Then the prep: cracks raked and filled, old filler sanded back, gaps between skirting and wall caulked, stains sealed, new plaster mist-coated. On woodwork that means sanding the old gloss to a key, filling the dents and priming the bare patches.

Walls get two full coats of matt or a washable finish, rolled and then cut in by hand at the ceiling, the woodwork and the corners. Woodwork gets an undercoat and a satin or gloss topcoat, brushed, with the doors taken off and painted flat where that gives a better finish. We use the paint you choose: a premium range if you want the depth, a trade equivalent when we can honestly say it will look the same.

A bedroom is a day, a living room with woodwork two, a hall stairs and landing three or four. We work one room at a time so you keep the rest of the house, and hoover and put the furniture back every evening.

Questions about interiors

Do I need to clear the room?

Small things and anything precious, yes. Furniture we move to the middle and cover, or into the next room if there is space. Pictures and curtains come down and go back up.

How many coats?

Two full coats on everything, always. A colour change from dark to light or a new plaster wall may need a third, which we say at the quote.

Get a price per room.

Jo visits, looks at the walls and the woodwork, and sends a fixed price per room within two days. Add a colour consultation and the £95 comes off the job.
