The process

How it works, and what it costs.

No mystery, no call-out fee, no "it depends" without a number attached. Here is the process and the price guide we work from.

Six steps

From your phone to your front room.

  1. Send a photo

Two or three photos from your phone, the rough size and where you are. We reply within two working days with a price range and fabric suggestions.

  2. Choose your fabric

Pick samples from the library and we post them to you, or visit the workshop. See them in your room, in your light, next to your floor.

  3. We collect

Free collection within 40 miles of Pontypridd. We give you a date, we turn up, and we bring blankets and straps.

  4. Strip and inspect

Back to the bare frame. We photograph what we find and ring you if anything changes the quote. It rarely does.

  5. Rebuild and cover

Joints, webbing, springs, fillings, then the cover: cut, sewn and fitted by hand. Two to four weeks on average.

  6. Delivered back

Unwrapped, set in place, the old fabric offered back to you if you want it. Guaranteed for five years on our work.

Price guide

Labour prices, before fabric.

These are the figures we quote from. Fabric is extra: the library runs from about £30 to £120 a metre, and the table says roughly how much each piece needs. Every job is confirmed in writing before we collect.

A traditional sprung seat under restoration: webbing, lashed coil springs and horsehair

Why strip to the frame?

Because the cover is the last ten percent.

A sagging seat is never the fabric's fault. It is webbing that has stretched, springs that have lost their lashing, foam that has crumbled to dust. Put a new cover over that and it will look right for a year and sit wrong from the first day. So every piece comes back to bare wood, every joint is checked, and the padding is rebuilt before a single tack of top cover goes in. It takes longer. It is the only way we know to do it.

Questions we are asked

How long will my piece be away?

An armchair two to three weeks, a sofa three to four, a dining set about two. Traditional sprung antiques take longer, and we will give you a realistic date when we quote. We do not take a piece until we have bench space for it, so the date we give is the date you get.

Do you charge for a quote?

No. Photos by email or WhatsApp are enough for almost everything. For commercial jobs and vehicles we visit, also free within our area.

How do I pay?

Fifty percent when we collect, the balance on delivery, by bank transfer or card. Fabric from outside the library is paid for when ordered.

What if the frame is beyond saving?

We tell you. Occasionally a piece is not worth the cost of restoring and we would rather say so than take your money. If it is a question of a broken rail or a split joint, that is repairable and included in the quote.

Is my old fabric recycled?

Where it is clean and sound we offer it back to you or pass it to a local textile reuse scheme. Old foam goes to specialist recycling, not landfill.

Send us a photo of your piece.

Two or three photos from your phone and the rough size is all we need to give you an honest quote, usually within two working days.
