First and third Saturday, 8am

Race simulations

The full race on the first and third Saturday of every month: eight 1km runs on the estate loop, all eight stations at your weight, chip-style splits and a debrief.

A race simulation in a warehouse gym: one person on a rowing machine, one doing sandbag lunges, one carrying kettlebells, a coach calling times

The race is a strange thing to do for the first time: run, stop, do something hard, run again with legs that no longer feel like yours. The only way to know what that feels like is to do it.

Sims run on the first and third Saturday of every month at 8am. Twenty-four places, set off in waves of six four minutes apart, so nobody waits for a station. The run is a measured 1km loop of the estate road, out of the shutter and back; the stations are inside, at full race distance and at your division's weights.

A coach writes down every split: each run, each station, each transition. You get them by email the same afternoon, against your plan if you have one, with one sentence on where the time went.

You can do half a sim, four runs and four stations, if a full one is too much yet. Plenty of people do their first that way.

What is included

  • All eight stations at full race distance and weight
  • Eight measured 1km laps of the estate loop
  • Every split recorded and emailed the same day
  • Waves of six, so no queues at the stations

Questions about race sims

Do I need to be a member?

No. Anyone can book a sim for £20. Members pay £10.

Is the run outside?

Yes, on the quiet estate road, which is closed to through traffic on Saturday mornings. In ice or a storm the runs move to the ergs and treadmills and we tell you on Friday.

How long does it take?

Allow two hours: a twenty-minute warm-up and briefing, your race, and the cool-down. Most first-timers finish in between 1 hour 20 and 1 hour 50.

Your first class is free. Come and push a sled.

Book any class the night before and tell the coach at the door it is your first. You get the lighter option at every station, a coach nearby, and nobody watching the clock but you. Or come to a race sim and see what the whole thing feels like.
