The people

Three people and the dogs.

Helen has farmed here all her life and built the kennels in 2008. Lowri runs the walks. Dan drives the van. Between them they know every dog in the cowshed by name by the second morning, and the same person walks your dog every day of its stay.

The people

Helen Morgan, a kennels owner in her fifties in a waxed jacket with a border collie at her side, under the oak

Helen Morgan

Owner. The office, the night checks, the old dogs

Farmed here with her parents, turned the cowshed into kennels in 2008 and rebuilt it as suites in 2015. Does the last check of the night at ten and the first at six, and takes the quiet end personally. Lives in the farmhouse with two collies and the phone by the bed.

Lowri Evans, a head kennel hand in her thirties in a green polo shirt holding a spaniel puppy in the kennel corridor

Lowri Evans

Head kennel hand. Walks, training, the evening photographs

Trained at the Dogs Trust in Bridgend and has been here since 2016. Runs the walk rota, the one-to-one sessions and the puppy routine, and takes most of the evening photographs. Will tell you what she thinks of your dog's recall. Has a Welsh sheepdog called Nel who is not allowed in the office.

Dan Hughes, a young kennel assistant in a green fleece and wellies with a muddy labrador leaning on his legs

Dan Hughes

Kennel hand. The van, the wash room, the cleaning

Joined at eighteen in 2019 and now drives the van, runs the wash room and does the morning clean of all twenty-four suites with whoever is on. The dogs that pull hardest get Dan. Knows every lane within twelve miles and which gates stick.

  • 400years old, the oak in the yard

Who is on

Three in the day, one in the farmhouse at night.

Seven to half past six

Helen in the office and the quiet end, Lowri on the walk rota, Dan on the van and the clean, with two part-time kennel hands from the village at weekends and in summer.

The night

Helen is in the farmhouse forty yards from the cowshed, with the phone by the bed, a check at ten and another at six.

First aid and the vet

Everyone who walks a dog here holds a canine first-aid certificate, renewed every three years. The vet is four miles away and on the phone at any hour.

The same walker

One kennel hand walks your dog for the whole stay, so the evening photograph comes from someone who knows it.

Licensed

Licensed by Rhondda Cynon Taf, and the inspection report is yours to read.

The licence certificate is on the office wall and the last inspection report is in the drawer under it. Ask at the viewing. It covers the suite sizes, the heating, the staffing ratio, the records we keep on every dog and the vaccination rule, which is the one thing on it we will never bend.

Book a viewing or a stay

Book a stay, or come and look.

Give us the dates, the dog and whether two are sharing, and Helen replies within a day with the suite, the price and the deposit. Viewings on Saturdays, eleven to one, no appointment. Bring the dog.
