The pizza van

A Citroën van, an oven, two hours of pizza.

A 1972 Citroën H van with a wood-fired oven in the back, for weddings, birthdays, works dos and fêtes within reach of Pontypridd. It needs no power for the oven, cooks the whole board to order, and draws a crowd as soon as the fire is lit.

A vintage corrugated Citroën H van painted dark charcoal with a wood-fired oven glowing inside the open side hatch, parked on a lawn at an evening garden party, festoon lights overhead

What we need from the venue

A flat pitch and somewhere to eat.

A flat pitch

About six metres by three, firm enough for a car, within forty metres of where people will eat, and clear of overhanging trees, because the chimney sparks.

An hour and a half

We arrive ninety minutes before service to set up and get the oven to four hundred and fifty degrees, and leave about an hour after, with the ashes.

The paperwork

Food hygiene rated five, public liability cover of five million pounds, gas-free oven, and a fire blanket and extinguisher on board. Venues get the certificates a month before.

Every diet

Vegan and gluten-free pizzas are cooked on the night with their own peel; send us the numbers a week before and we bring enough of each.

Questions about the van

How much space does the van need?

A flat pitch of about six metres by three, firm enough for a car, within forty metres of where people will eat, and away from overhanging trees, because the chimney sparks. The oven needs no power; the lights run from a battery.

What if it rains?

The oven does not mind. We bring a gazebo for the queue. Most weddings in Wales have rain somewhere in the day and we have not lost a service to it yet.
