Fillings, crowns and root canals

Fixing teeth that have broken, decayed or ache: tooth-coloured fillings, crowns made in a day with our scanner, bridges, and root canal treatment done properly under magnification so the tooth is kept rather than lost.

The aim is to keep the tooth. A filling done early is small; a crown done well lasts decades; a root canal done under a microscope saves a tooth that would otherwise be pulled. We do not take teeth out that can be kept.

Fillings are white composite, bonded to the tooth, matched to its colour and shaped so you cannot tell. Larger repairs get an inlay or a crown: we scan the tooth with a digital scanner rather than taking a mouthful of impression material, and most crowns are designed and milled in the practice the same day, so you leave with the finished crown rather than a temporary and a second visit.

Root canal treatment is the one everyone dreads and the one that, done properly, is no worse than a filling: the tooth is fully numb, the work is done under a microscope with a rubber dam so it is clean and dry, usually in one visit of about an hour. Anna does most of ours; the complex ones go to a specialist endodontist we work with in Cardiff. Every repair comes with a written guarantee.

Questions about repairs

Will it hurt?

The injection is the only part you might feel, and we use a numbing gel first and go slowly. After that the tooth is fully numb and you feel pressure, not pain. If you can feel anything, you raise a hand and we stop. That is a rule in every surgery here.

A new patient examination is £75 with X-rays and photographs, or £18.50 a month on the membership plan with two hygienist visits a year and 10% off treatment. Nervous? Ask for James and start with a conversation.
