The cleaners

You meet your cleaner and keep them.

Nia ran housekeeping for a Cardiff hotel and started this from her kitchen in 2016. Sam does the jobs that need the van. Lynne has cleaned Radyr for twenty years and trains everyone who joins. There are eleven of us now, and the one you meet at the first clean is the one who keeps your house.

The people

Nia Bevan, a woman in her early forties with dark hair in a ponytail in a teal polo shirt, standing in a bright kitchen with her arms folded

Nia Bevan

Owner. First visits, the checklists, the rota

Ran housekeeping for a Cardiff hotel for eight years before starting Bright Hearth from her kitchen in Radyr in 2016 with one car and three regular houses. Does every first visit and writes every checklist herself, builds the rota, and still cleans two mornings a week so she knows what the job is like. The one who rings you.

Ovens, end of tenancy, deep cleans

Joined in 2019 from a commercial cleaning firm and took the jobs that need the van: the dip tank for the ovens, the steam cleaner, the carpet machine and the end-of-tenancy kit. Does three or four ovens a day and most of the Saturday end-of-tenancy work. Has not yet met an oven he could not get the glass out of.

Lynne Davies, a woman in her mid-fifties with short silver hair and glasses in a teal polo shirt, standing by a bay window with a folded cloth

Lynne Davies

Senior cleaner. Regular rounds in Radyr and Danescourt

Has cleaned houses in Radyr for twenty years, the last seven with Bright Hearth, and has the longest list of regular homes: some of them weekly since 2017. Trains every new cleaner by taking them round her own houses for a fortnight. Will tell you, kindly, that the cupboard under the sink needs a sort.

Checks and training

What every cleaner has before they hold a key.

Enhanced DBS check

Renewed every three years, because our cleaners let themselves into empty houses. The certificate comes to the first visit.

A fortnight with Lynne

Every new cleaner spends two weeks on Lynne's round before a house of their own, learning the checklist, the products and the standard.

Insurance and key cover

Public liability, and key and lock cover with a specialist insurer. If we break something we tell you the same day and pay for it.

Paid properly, so they stay

Above the real living wage, travel time paid, the same houses every week. Our cleaners stay for years, which is why you get the same face.

Holidays and cover

When your cleaner is away, the cover is someone you have met.

Each cleaner is paired with another who has been round their houses with them, so holiday cover is a face you have seen before, told to you the week before by name. If you would rather skip the visit than have cover, that is fine with a week's notice, and the checklist tells the cover exactly where things were left.
