One evening a week

Midweek training

Under 7s to 12s on Wednesdays from half five. Under 13s to 16s on Mondays from half six, under the lights on the river pitch.

Every age group trains one evening a week for an hour. Under 7s to 10s are off by half past six, in time for tea and bed. Older groups use the floodlit half of the river pitch.

Sessions are mostly small games, because that is how boys actually get better: more touches, more decisions, less standing in lines waiting for a turn. Every coach has at least the entry-level badge, or is working towards it alongside one who has.

If the lights are off or the ground is frozen, we text parents by four o'clock. In the very worst of winter, younger groups move into the Bedwas community hall for a few weeks.

No, though it is more fun if he does. Nobody loses their game for missing Wednesday.

Can I stay and watch?

Always. Plenty of parents do.

Two training sessions free. Then he can tell you.

Wednesday evenings at Trethomas Park, grouped by age. Bring boots or trainers, shin pads if you have them, and a coat for yourself. Ask for the coach of his age group at the car park gate.
