The best full breakfast in town and I have tried them all. Laverbread on a Saturday like my nan used to do, and a refill of tea without having to wave at anyone.

Six reviews from regulars and visitors, including the four-star one about waiting for a table on a Saturday.

Six of them.
Found it on a walking weekend up the Sugar Loaf. A properly made flat white, a slice of coffee and walnut cake the size of a brick, and the staff told us where to park for the Skirrid.
We had my mum’s seventieth here on a Saturday evening. Afternoon tea for twenty-four, our own fizz, festoon lights, and Megan had a cake waiting with her name on it. Faultless.
Two under-fives and nobody tutted. High chair ready, crayons on the table, pancakes cut up without asking. It is the only café we go to on market day.
Excellent rarebit and the soup is always good, but on a Saturday lunchtime it is busy and you may wait twenty minutes for a table. Worth it, but go early or on a weekday.
Ordered a two-tier cake for my daughter’s christening. Lemon sponge, raspberries and edible flowers, exactly as we talked about, ready on the Saturday morning. Everyone asked where it came from.
Collected by an independent review platform. We do not choose which appear, and we answer every one.
About the four stars
Peter is right about Saturday lunchtimes.
Market Saturdays are our busiest day, and between twelve and two a table for two can take twenty minutes. Since the summer we keep two tables for people who ring ahead, take names at the door so nobody has to hover, and the cakes and coffee counter serves takeaway without a wait. Weekday lunchtimes are quieter, and before ten on a Saturday you will walk straight in.

Come in. There is usually a table, and always cake.
Breakfast until 11:30, lunch until the kitchen closes, cakes and coffee all day, Tuesday to Sunday. Book for six or more, order a whole cake for collection, or hire the café after hours.
