What we do

Six things, from babies to grandfathers.

All six

Children's speech

For children who are hard to understand, or who swap, drop or struggle with sounds. Assessment first, then games at home that actually fit in the week.

Assessment £95.

Stammering

For children, teenagers and adults. We work on communicating with confidence, and we do not treat stammering as a fault to be hidden.

First appointment £95.

Language delay

For children who are talking later than others, or who seem not to follow what is said. We look at understanding as well as talking.

Assessment £95.

Adult stroke rehabilitation

Help with finding words, understanding, reading and clear speech after a stroke, usually after NHS therapy has come to an end. In your home if that is easier.

From £95.

Voice therapy

For hoarseness, a voice that tires, or a voice you depend on for work. Please see your GP or an ENT doctor first for hoarseness that lasts three weeks.

First appointment £95.

School and nursery reports

A clear written report with recommendations a busy teacher can actually use. We visit the setting if you and the school are happy with that.

Report £180.

How we work

Four things you can hold us to.

We ring you first, free

Fifteen minutes on the phone. We ask about your child or about you, and tell you honestly whether you need us, the NHS, or nothing yet.

We tell you about the NHS

NHS speech and language therapy is free and good, though waits can be long. Private therapy can sit alongside it. We will never suggest you come off a waiting list.

You learn what we do

Most progress happens at home, in the bath and in the car. So we show you how, you stay in the room, and you take the games home.

We say when to stop

We agree what we are working towards, and review every six sessions. When your child no longer needs us, we say so and shake hands.

Safeguarding

Plainly, because you should ask.

Everyone who works with children here has an enhanced DBS check, renewed every three years. Siân Griffiths is our named safeguarding lead, and follows the Wales Safeguarding Procedures. Parents stay in the room with under-twelves. We do not photograph or film without written consent, and we never use pictures of children we work with, on this website or anywhere else.

Reviews

What families and patients say.

Language delay

Everyone said boys talk late. Siân played on the floor with my son for an hour and told us exactly where he was. She also told us to keep going with the NHS waiting list. We did the parent course, and it changed how we all talk at home.

Stammering

I am thirty-four and I have spent my life avoiding the phone. Siân did not try to fix me, and I still stammer. I now order the takeaway, and I told my manager, and I wish I had done it years ago.

Adult stroke rehab

Matthew came to the house and asked my husband what he wanted to say first. It was to order a pint at the Butchers. It took months. He did it. Matthew never told us how far he would get, just worked with what was there.

Questions people ask

Do I need a referral?

No. Ring us for a free fifteen-minute chat. You can also ask your health visitor, GP or school about NHS therapy, which is free, and many families do both.

Is my child behind?

The milestones page gives you a rough guide by age. It cannot tell you about your own child, so if you are worried, ask. Nobody ever regretted asking.

Do you see children in Welsh?

Yes. Siân works in English and Welsh, and we assess bilingual children in both languages, with help where we need it.

Will I stay in the room?

Yes, with young children, always. Most of what helps happens at home, so it is really for you. Older children can choose.

How do you keep children safe?

Everyone is enhanced DBS checked, with a named safeguarding lead, Siân. Parents stay with under-twelves. We do not take photographs or video without written consent, and we never use them on this website.

What does it cost?

A first assessment is £95 and sessions are £70. The phone call first is free. There are no block bookings. Some health insurance covers it: check first.
