First visit £65, about an hour
Registered with the GCCBoth chiropractors are registered with the General Chiropractic Council, which is a legal requirement to use the title, and members of the British Chiropractic Association. Certificates in reception.
An examination before any treatmentThe first visit is an hour: history, orthopaedic and neurological tests, movement screening, and a plain explanation of what we found before anyone touches your back.
A plan with an endYou get a number of visits, a review date and a goal. Most people need four to eight. We do not sell open-ended maintenance courses or ask you to pay up front for twenty.
We refer when it is not for usRed flags, a suspected fracture or disc, anything that needs imaging or a GP: we say so on the first visit and write to your GP with your consent. Chiropractic is not for everything.

What we treat

Six things we see most weeks.

Everything we treat

01

Back pain

The most common reason people come through the door: a low back that went while lifting, a stiff mid-back from the desk, or sciatica down one leg. Examined properly, treated with adjustment and soft tissue work, and given a plan with an end.

New patient visit £65 including the first treatment where appropriate; follow-ups £42.

02

Neck pain and headaches

Necks that will not turn, headaches that start at the base of the skull, the ache across the shoulders from a day at a screen. Assessed for the neck, the jaw and the upper back together, because they rarely act alone.

New patient visit £65; follow-ups £42.

03

Sports injuries

Hips, knees, shoulders and backs that stop you training. Assessed for the joint that hurts and the one above or below it that caused it, treated hands-on, and loaded back to sport with a plan rather than rest.

New patient visit £65; follow-ups £42; sports massage £38 for 30 minutes or £62 for the hour with Helen.

04

Pregnancy and postnatal

Pelvic girdle pain, low back pain and rib ache during pregnancy, treated gently in side-lying on a table that adapts, and the back, pelvis and posture of the months after the birth. Elin leads this.

New patient visit £65; follow-ups £42.

05

Older adults

Stiff arthritic backs and necks, hips and knees that have slowed down, and the balance and confidence to keep walking and gardening. Gentle techniques, a concession fee and a slower pace.

New patient visit £65; concession follow-ups £36 for over 65s.

06

Sports and remedial massage

Deep tissue and remedial massage with Helen, a sports massage therapist of twenty years, for tight hamstrings, stiff shoulders, marathon weeks and desk backs. Bookable on its own or between chiropractic visits.

30 minutes £38, 60 minutes £62.

Your first visit

An hour, in six parts.

The full first visit

01

The form, ten minutes early

A health questionnaire: where it hurts, how it started, what makes it better or worse, your medical history and medication. Bring a list of what you take and any scan reports you have.

02

The history, twenty minutes

The chiropractor listens. How it started, what you have tried, what you want to get back to. The questions about bladder, bowel, weight loss and night pain are the red-flag screen and we ask everyone.

03

The examination, twenty minutes

Posture and movement, then orthopaedic tests of the joints and neurological tests of the nerves: reflexes, strength, sensation. You keep your underwear on and we provide a gown; a chaperone is available.

04

The report of findings

What we found, what we think is causing it, whether chiropractic is the right thing, and a plan: how many visits, how often, what you do at home, and the date we review it. Questions welcome.

05

The first treatment

If it is appropriate and you consent, treatment starts the same day: adjustment or mobilisation, soft tissue work, and two or three exercises shown and written down. Some people are sore for a day after. That is normal.

06

The review at visit four

Pain and movement scores against the first visit. Improving as expected: carry on to the end of the plan. Not improving: change the plan, add imaging, or refer. Nobody is kept on a course that is not working.

How we work

Four things you can expect every time.

Hands on, and more than hands on

Adjustment where it helps, soft tissue work, mobilisation, dry needling and a short exercise plan you can actually do. The adjustment is one tool, not the whole toolbox.

Time that matches the fee

A new patient visit is an hour, a follow-up twenty to twenty-five minutes. You are not rushed through in eight minutes to make the diary work.

Fees on the website

First visit £65, follow-ups £42, five together £195. No VAT, no hidden report fee, no "wellness package". Most health insurers cover us.

Measured, not guessed

We record your pain and movement scores at the first visit and at each review, so improvement is a number on a chart rather than a feeling, and so we both know when to stop.

When it is not for us

The most useful thing a chiropractor can say is "not this one".

Chiropractic is good for mechanical back and neck pain, joints, headaches that start in the neck and the aches of pregnancy and age. It is not for everything, and part of the first visit is checking for the things it is not for: a fracture, a disc pressing on a nerve with weakness, an inflammatory condition, an infection, a problem that needs a scan or a GP.

  • Red-flag screening questions asked of every new patient
  • A letter to your GP with your consent, same day if it is urgent
  • Working relationships with local physiotherapy, podiatry and the Royal Glamorgan

What Pontypridd says.

Back pain

Went in unable to stand up straight after lifting a fence post. Owen examined me properly, told me it was a facet joint and not a disc, and I was walking the dog by visit three. Five visits and discharged. Nobody tried to sign me up for a year.

Gareth M.Treforest
Neck and headaches

Headaches most afternoons for two years. Elin found a neck that barely turned and a desk set-up that made it worse. Four visits, a new monitor height, and I have had two headaches in three months.

Sports injuries

Runner's knee that three months of rest did nothing for. Owen looked at my hip, not my knee, gave me a loading plan and let me keep running. Half marathon done six weeks later. Helen's massage the week before was the best money I spent.

Questions people ask before they book

Do I need a GP referral?

No. Chiropractors are primary healthcare practitioners and you can book directly. If you are claiming on health insurance, check whether your policy wants a GP referral first; most do not for chiropractic.

What happens on the first visit?

About an hour: a questionnaire, a history, a full examination including the red-flag screen, an explanation of what we found with a spine model on the desk, a plan with a visit count and a review date, and the first treatment where appropriate. It is £65 all in.

How many visits will I need?

Most people need four to eight. We write the number down at the first visit, review it at visit four against your pain and movement scores, and stop when you have reached the goal. We do not sell open-ended maintenance courses.

Does it hurt?

The examination can be uncomfortable where it tests the sore area. Treatment is rarely painful, and an adjustment is quick. Some people are a little sore for a day after the first visit, like after a new exercise. If anything is more than that, ring us.

Is chiropractic covered by my health insurance?

Usually. We are recognised by Bupa, AXA Health, Aviva, Vitality, WPA and Simplyhealth among others. Bring your policy details and we will tell you how your insurer handles it.
