The parlour

I check the flavours page before we walk along the front to see if the bara brith is in, and on Saturday it was. Three scoops £6.20, the same as last year. The girls behind the counter let my grandson taste six before he chose bubblegum, which he always does.

The cart

The striped cart between the meal and the band, eight flavours we chose at a tasting and a Prosecco and raspberry sorbet Ffion made for us. A hundred and forty guests, £507 all in, and the queue for the cart was longer than the one for the bar.

The flavours

Filtered the flavours to vegan on my phone and got four in the window today, with the other four and the day they are next in. The oat milk chocolate is better than most dairy chocolate ice cream. Vegan waffle with it is £1 more and worth it.

The school

Three hours with Ffion on a cold Saturday: custard, sorbet, a refractometer, and two tubs home (we made a rhubarb and ginger and a terrible coffee one, our fault). I finally understand why my ice cream at home sets like a brick.

The parlour

The best ice cream on the bay, no question. Four stars because at three on a sunny Saturday the queue was out of the door and along the railings; it moved in about twelve minutes, and next time I will order a tub on the website and skip it like the woman in front of me did.

Tubs

Ordered a five-litre salted caramel for my son's party the day before, collected it from the end of the counter with his name on the bag, no queue. Seventy scoops, £45, and every parent asked where it was from.

About the four stars

Dan is right about the queue. Order a tub on the website and walk past it.

On a sunny Saturday afternoon there are about four hundred people between two and five and one cabinet, and twelve minutes is the honest wait. We have added a second till for cones only from two o'clock in July and August, and a shelf at the end of the counter for tubs ordered on the website, collected without queuing. A scoop is still a scoop; we will not speed it up by making it smaller.
