The same hour, from your own room, anywhere in Wales or England

Online and phone sessions

Video or phone sessions for people who cannot get to Penarth, would rather not, or need to fit counselling around children, shifts or a body that does not like travelling. The same counsellor, the same hour, the same price.

Online counselling works better than most people expect. What matters is a private place where you will not be overheard, a steady connection, and a counsellor who notices what is happening on the screen as carefully as in the room.

Sessions are by a secure video link that we send you; you do not need an account or to download anything. Phone sessions suit people who find a camera uncomfortable or who are better at talking while looking out of a window. Some clients mix the two, coming to Plymouth Road most weeks and going online when the children are ill or the weather is foul.

Before the first online session we agree what happens if the connection drops (we ring you), where you will be, and a phone number for emergencies. We ask you to be somewhere private rather than in the car outside work, though we know that sometimes that is the only private place there is. We can work with people anywhere in Wales and England; we cannot work with people abroad because of insurance.

What it includes

  • Secure video link, no account needed
  • Phone sessions if you prefer
  • Mix room and online as weeks require
  • Agreed plan if the connection drops
  • Anywhere in Wales and England
  • Couples online when you live apart

What it costs

£65 a session, or the sliding scale. Couples online £85. The first call is free. The fees page works out the sliding-scale fee from your household income, and explains cancelling and paying.

Questions about online and phone

Is online as good as being in the room?

For most people, yes. Research and our own experience suggest outcomes are similar. Some people find it easier to talk from home; some miss the room. You can switch.

What if someone at home overhears?

Headphones help, and so does a fan or a radio outside the door. If there is nowhere private at home, tell us; a parked car, a friend's spare room or our room on Plymouth Road are all options.

Start with a free 20-minute call.

Talk to the counsellor you would see before anything is booked or paid for. Ask anything, including whether we are the right people. The diary shows the next free call; pick it, or ring and leave a message and we reply within a working day.
